My LG dvd burner

I'm just wondering if anyone has an idea what the heck is going on with my LG GSA-4160B dvd burner. For some reason it works fine with Sony and Phillips dvd+r's but it doesn't want to work with memorex dvds, does this just mean that memorex is too crappy? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

You might try upgrading the firmware to the latest firmware from:

http://us.lgservice.com/

However, Memorex ARE crappy discs. They use discs from a variety of makers, some of which are disreputable e.g. CMC.

Read my sig below about what media and burn speeds to use. There's no point in using cheap media when Verbatim and Taiyo-Yuden premiums are always on sale for the same price or even less.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Just in case anyone is reading this that is looking for firmware, I found a site that had the firmware for my burner (LG GSA-4163), so if anyone else is having problems with this burner please check out http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=16. Thanks for your help.
