I am fairly new to video encoding, etc, and need some help. I am using Dr. DivX 1.0.6 build 105. I have downloaded some freeware video filters from the Virtual Dub site, and have put them in the appropriate folder. I open a video file in this case AVI). I get to the 'Encode Video' window, then choose 'Modify' with Dr DivX and then click on 'Modify Settings'. I then click on 'Add Filter' and I go ahead and add the filter...in this case smooth.vdf (smart smoother 1.1). I then click on encode, and hello! it all disappears. No Dr DivX on the screen, nothing. What am I doing wrong? Or is there something I need to configure? Go easy on the tech speak, I'm still learning. Thanks guys.
Do you have the registered version of the DivXcodec?
Because many applications and movie players allow you only the DECoding capability of the codec, not the COding one.
Therefore, you can view DivX files but you cannot create them. For instance, VirtualDub works only with Video set on Direct Stream Copy, not on Full Processing Mode.
My best suggestion is to have DivX and XviD installed on your computer, so you can avoid having those useless 'codec packs' (since DivX+XviD cover 99.99% of the video you'll ever find and, sometimes, the codec packs even conflict each other).
If you wish, you can register DivX and you'll able to create DivX video. If you don't, you can create XviD videos (VirtualDub Video___Compression --> XviD MPEG-4 codec), sicne XviD is free and is almost as good as DivX.
