Pacific Digital & Sonic Record Problem ?

I am running out of time to search and i'm not really sure where to post this one any way so this is where i'l give this a whirl !
I 've had my pacific digital DVDS burner 2 or 3 years now. The software that came with it was not useful so to burn DVD's (Data) that is, I;ve always used Sonic Record now it's what i've used for DvD's And i just used the Windows program for Cd's etc. But lately i've noticed my Data DvD's aren't being recognized by the drive . I've downloaded several other DvD utilities to try new DVD's and they burn but my DVD Burner doesn't recognize them once their burned. Is there something that has caused this why can i not just use my drive to burn DVD's to begin with

There's a slew of things that can be the culprit:

1)Media quality:Crappy media-dye is breaking down. Some media can break down after 6 months. Use quality verbatim.

2)Format of the dvd: Plus or Dash-switch to opposite format.

3)Burned too fast

4)Dirty laser-run a cleaning disc-but it's a last resort before drive replacement.

5)Drive wearing out-losing it's reading ability.

6)Older drive,the firmware may need updated so it can properly burn your blanks.

7)Transfer Mode:Direct memory Access: You're dma's may have been thrown into pio mode.

8)Harddrive/s heavily fragmented,making it harder to find your files to be burned because they are scattered.

9) Burn engines: They do vary,and some drives have a harder time reading certain burning programs. Your burn engine may need removed,and re-installed. Also burn engines can clash- like Nero and roxio. If you have either of those programs,there can be a clash.

That's just some of the things that are possible.
