Hi,
my friend told me that nowadays movie dvds have this feature which when ripped, it will somehow be recorded and there are ways to check how many times it has been ripped.
May I know if this is true? If I've got a dvd, is there some software to check how many times it has been ripped?
Thanks!

Oh my, not another "Chip embedded" thread?
Trust me your friend is indeed an idiot.
You are fine ripping DVD's as long as you literally don't rip them in half...

Tell your friend that the gal in the videoshop has here name entered in the mayoral race for Stupyville. Her mental agility leaves the world gasping in non-admiration.

Wow, kinda sad that a rental store employee said that... it was probably just to deter people who don't really know the whole process. I work at a video store and i've actually gotten into lengthy conversations with customers about how to rip dvds, the best software to use, and the best blank media to use XD I look at it this way, I can't stop a customer from doing whatever they're gonna do once they get home, but they're at least paying for their movies, so the store doesn't suffer any. The movie industry isn't doing ME any special favors, so why should I rat them our or even care?

AGwolf, as long as your talking about backing up movies the customers own its ok BUT i wouldn't discuss backing up rentals with them
