I know that you are supposed to use the nintendo usb to ethernet converter, but would i be able to by any old usb to ethernet converter to get onto the internet??

I personally don't know, but if the adapters are cheap, why not try it and see if it works. Though... You may need to buy the one made specifically for the Wii, because I've plugged USB devices into the Wii, and it won't recognize them. The Adapter for the Wii, might have something built in, so that the Wii can recognize it.

No you cant ive tried but you can buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter for just 50au and its easy to setup p.s ive found out where to buy them from there only nintendo store thing so i had to call up 03/97309822 here in Aus and say my name and send a money order when they recive the order they will swend it they should send it on monday and it should arrive on Tue and also using a usb-lan thing will mean you will have to setup all the addrases like ip,gateway,dns,mac etc while with the wifi adapter nothing or with a Wi-fi router its much more simple

have fun with the wifi adapter

the wifi adapter from nintendo is slower then dial-up

my recommendation is get a wireless router it is much easier and will almost cost you the same as the slower alternative
