I am interested in buying a new set and was amazed at the price of the Rear projection dlps in the big sizes. I liked what I saw from Samsung 61". They list two of these sets. One has cable card and one does not. What is this? Thanks. I posted this in the wrong forum. I am new here so sorry

CarbleCard is an addon standard for cable companies to support subscription models for your TV without need of a cable box. In the states it is becoming a reality, albeit slowly. In Canada, we are still eons away from that. Wish CRTC would just mirror the tech side of FTC and be done with it.

It's basically a cable box shrunk to the size of a credit card. You slide the card into the back of the TV, so you don't see a set top box.

Your cable company will have to provide you w/ the card though.

say you get that tv, then you want to get cable, you pick up a CableCard from the cable company and stick it into your tv, voila, no cable box.

Yes, but they will not just hand you a card. They will have to send an installer, to install it for you.

I do install them, not a big fan of them.
