Problem with NEC ND-3550A

I just bought a new external enclosure for my NC 3550. When I installed the drive on my laptop, the laptop recognizes the "USB Mass Storage Device" and "Disk Drive" but doesn't recognize the NEC itself, when I click on the Disk Drive under Mass Storage to check, it says, no driver is installed.
Does it mean that the external enclosure is not compatible with my NEC?

Is the drive set to MASTER on the jumpers?

I had a similar problem with an NEC3550A inside an enclosure. Came to find out the USB port was 1.1 rather than 2.0. Have a look-see at that too!
