all I wanted was a vcr/dvd combo, so I could copy old family videos onto dvd so they'd keep longer and not deteriorate. but then I wanted to make copies of those now made dvds to send to my other family members. so I bought an external DVD-RW drive from comp usa which has Nero oem. I figured I could put the newly made dvds into the dvd drive of my pc, and burn a copy onto a dvd in the external drive. but Nero is driving me nuts! half the time it won't play it, tell me what's on it, etc.

then I REALLY made a mistake, and had to reformat my computer - prior to doing so I tried to be correct and back up my files using the Nero. inadvertently I backed them up on dvd video instead of data. so, are they now lost forever? no way to convert?

I always thought I had a pretty good sense of these things...but I'm really at a loss, guys. can anyone help me out with some suggestions? I'll even buy new equipment if that will help. at this point, I just want it done, cost is no longer upper most!!!
