not true nintendo has already stated the dvd feature will be availible once they get a good working dvd playback application running on the wii because when they tried there first attempts the console would crash or fail
Actually that is one more you are wrong on.
There is not confirmation for the U.S or any PAL Regions just Japan,They (Nintendo) dont test anything they have gotten sonic solutions a Dvd software company to provide the dvd player for them whihc means they are testing and about taht crashing it where did ytou hear from I mean why would it crash all they do is chnage the firmware so taht firmware includes the Dvd player and maybe put a new drive I mean the ps2 ran it in 1999 and proto types ran dvd's in 1998 I dont know how they wopuld be getting a Console loaded wioth just a Dvd player in 2007 crashing + the ps2 was only 300mhz and it ran everything smooth I find you info wrong straighten it or dont say it.
it crashed because the wii could not handle the huge application sonic solutions produced so they have to go back in and shrink the application so that the wii's internal firmware doesn't overload because at e3 and at even ces they showed the wii playing dvd's so its on the way its just going to take them a while

Where did you get it from Link?
I mean that sounds fishy a dvd app crashing a 7th gen Console what are they trying to install Windows Vista On it?
Its a DVD app that takes up like 2mb-5mb how the hell does that manage to crash a system, with 1ghz,88mb super fast DDr3 and 1T-sram,a gpu that runs at 343mhz?
I doubt that it does.
And I also Doubt that anyone wants DVD playback nintendo Shouldnt be worrying about something they missed out on in the gamecube instead adding new things I mean like for eg.instead of DVD playback they could add USB mass storage anyone would want that more then playback of dvd's,and giving us a cord that connects from teh wii-mote to the usb when it has rechargabe batteries so you can chgarge it those things are better.
It was my understanding that in order to play DVD's, you would have to buy an enhanced Wii, meaning there would be no way to play them on the Wii you have now.
Sorry about the double post, I can't find the edit button =/
Anyway, I was right. You will have to buy a new Wii if you want to use it as a DVD player.
Quote:Sonic Solutions announced in a press release that its CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator application will bring "high-quality DVD movie viewing to a future version" of Wii, expected to hit store shelves in late 2007.
Kinda sucks, especially if you will need to buy this version to get linux running on it.
