Home movie to DVD?

I burned my VHS home movies to DVD with my Magnavox DVD Recorder/VCR MWR 20V6, Now I would like to edit them and put in menus and burn them back to DVD. I'm using a DVD+RW that ends up with a file structure like this:

VIDEO_RM
- VIDEO_RM.DAT
- VIDEO_RM.BUP
- VIDEO_RM.IFO
VIDEO_TS
- VIDEO_TS.DAT
- VIDEO_TS.BUP
- VIDEO_TS.IFO
- VTS_01_0.BUP
- VTS_01_0.IFO
- VTS_01_1.VOB
- VTS_01_2.VOB
- VTS_01_3.VOB
- VTS_01_4.VOB

I have a Toshiba SD-R5372 DVD+/-RW Drive on my PC.
What freeware programs would you suggest to rip the DVD, edit the video, add menus and burn it back to the disk? Hopefully something a n00b like me can operate. tyia.

Okay, Just found out I can rename the *.vob files to *.mpg and they play perfectly in WMP. Guess I'll head to the other sections to try to figure out how to edit and author my source files.
