Any recommendations for a 2007 recorder make?

I have looked at various emails in this forum and none relate to current recorder market (2007)in which there are several new models on offer. Recently I have had a couple of off-putting experiences that I don't wish to repeat. Is there anyone out there bold enough to recommend a reliable cheap end recorder (about £130 give or take a bit)? Requirements: record/play DVD+RW discs (don't want HD GB drive): able to record from Sky satellite programmes(don't want freeview) or from VHS: Good onscreen display: preferably able to edit and manually insert chapters if possible. Many current models are so new that here are no user reviews on sellers' sites. Unfortunately there are more adverse comments on various existing sites than any of the "Gosh!Wow!Five stars!Wonderful bit of gear" variety.
I have so far looked at six different makes/models of recorder and all of them are classed in review sites as "cr*p" and "don't buy one of these!" The trouble is that some manufacturers have improved the quality of their products since the reviews were written in the last two or three years. Is there somewhere a brave soul with a current reommendation?
