I just installed a HyperX modchip. Then I followed this guide from copying-xbox-games.com. I have EvolutionX v1.8.3285. But I restart, restart and restart and all I get is:

HyperX BIOS v1.0

HDD: ST310211A 6.55 10.4GB
DVD: Thompson-DVD

enable network flashing
load bios from HDD (c:\bios)
load bios from disc
unlock HDD
lock HDD

If I choose "enable network flashing" I get:

[nforce]nforce: MAC adress 00:50:F2:4A:0B:2C
bad ability 0 - falling back to 10 HD.
10-Mbs link, half-duplex
no link during initialization.
TCP/IP initialized
DHCP failed - falling back to 192.168.0.99

If I choose "load bios from HDD (c:\bios)" I get:

No c:bios found...

If I choose "load bios from disc" I get:

Please insert CD - Flashing mode
---then I get---
cdrom lable:
No bios update found...Halting

I have used Sony DVD+RW media, Memorex CD-R, and Maxell CD-RW. I have loaded, reloaded, and loaded each disc several times.

Help Please.

you successfully installed the modchip. Now you need to flash bios. So you can flash bios from CD or HDD. Here is the tut how to setup network and do FTP bios to xbox hdd C drive.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/333781

Or you can search tut how to burn bios CD.

After flash bios, you also need the autoinstaller disk like AID, Slayer, SID, etc... to install dashboard.

Thanks TheReturn, After reading some of the threads on this chip, I was wanding if I could get it to work. But the intallation was flawless.

Your tut on "How To FTP And How To Config Options On EvolutionX Dashboard & Skins." isn't helping.

Quote:
If you use the crossover cable:
Connect PC to Xbox by using a crossover cable

ON dashboard of XBOX. Goto settings => mode "static". If you want to use DHCP, let me know.
IP 192.168.1.10
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.11
DNS is blank

Save.

The dashboard on my XBOX is:

HyperX BIOS v1.0

HDD: ST310211A 6.55 10.4GB
DVD: Thompson-DVD

enable network flashing
load bios from HDD (c:\bios)
load bios from disc
unlock HDD
lock HDD

That's all I get, I have no settings.

Are you loading a disk with the BIOS or the Evox dash installation?
It looks like you haven't performed the initial flash of the BIOS yet. If you haven't, make sure you burn a BIOS installation disk before you try to load the dashboard.

If you already flashed the BIOS, your old Thompson drive may be the culprit in not reading the right type of disk. Try a DVD-R or DVD+R. My first installation worked with a TDK DVD-RW, but only after several failed attempts with CD-R/RW and other media.

But first, make sure you actually loaded a BIOS into the chip.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic (I am very new to this) but isn't that what EvolutionX v1.8.3285 is? I can't get it on my xbox.

just my two cents, but you need to flash your new chip first before you can do anything else, that is why your seeing what your seeing when booting up.... easiest way is to make a bios dvd for this, then select load bios from disc...it will load, then you can load your installer disc... i believe that the hyper x chip is compatible with most bios's!

TheReturn, I have the Xbox connected to my computer with a crossover cable, but I can't connect. Here is what I get when I select "enable network flashing"

[nforce]nforce: MAC adress 00:50:F2:4A:0B:2C
bad ability 0 - falling back to 10 HD.
10-Mbs link, half-duplex
no link during initialization.
TCP/IP initialized
DHCP failed - falling back to 192.168.0.99

My TCP/IP for that connection is set to:

IP Address 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Here is a screen shot of where I am stuck.

I tried your tut http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/333781
but I kept getting
[R]Connection Failed (Connection timed out)

I downloaded the Evolution X M8 BIOS from http://www.x-b-o-x.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=71?1169227393
(256k file) After all of the reading that I've done, that is what I want to flash with.

Seem like the modchip is looking for address 192.168.0.99
connect xbox to pc and turn on xbox again or do it for 3 time to see if you have the same message:
DHCP failed - falling back to 192.168.0.99

if yes, change IP address on PC to 192.168.0.99 then try to connect again.

TheReturn,

I connected xbox to pc and turn on xbox 5 times, I have the same message:
DHCP failed - falling back to 192.168.0.99

I changed the IP address on PC to 192.168.0.99 then tried to connect again, Xbox has same thing, DHCP failed - Falling back to 192.168.0.99.

FlashFXP has the same thing it did earlier:
[R]Connecting to 192.168.0.99 ->IP=192.168.0.99 PORT=21
[R]Connection failed (Connection timed out)

Thanks TheReturn,
Do you know what bios I can use with this HyperX, and how big should it be: 256kb, 512kb, 1mb, ? Also, I have been reading soooo many tuts on this, I am still confussed. Once I get the bios (Which one), "idontknow.bin", what should I name it before making it into and xiso file with Yoursoft xISO?

TheReturn,
My Xbox version is 1.0
The HyperX has 1mg flash

I have downloaded theridges bios cd from http://my.afterdawn.com/theridgesfinest/all_links.cfm, and this is what I got:

I have burned a few of them with Nero and tried them. The xbox recognizes the disk because it shows the disks name, but nothing works.

Like I said before, I am very new to this and I appreciate your patients.

I also have Xecuter X2 4983.06 and Xecuter X2 4983.67 bios files. I tried those in 256k, 512k, and 1MB size with a 3MB dummy file on the disk. The Xbox reads the disk so it isn't the media, but it doesn't do anything.

User the Xecuter X2 4983.06 bios. When you make the bios cd, did you rename Xecuter X2 4983.06?

It did "something".
I used the the Evolution X 3285 bios. Resized the 256kb file to 1mb file and renamed it bios.bin. I burned that file along with a 60mb dummy file. I inserted the disk, scrolled down to "load bios from disc", and I got the "flashing bios" screen (never got that far before). It lasted about 30 seconds, then the xbox shut down. I started it back up and now I get the original xbox menu. Did I do something wrong, did I fry the chip?

When you say "regular Xbox Menu" are you talking about the dashboard?
Or the "splash screen" after the flubber?

This might be a good time to stick in the AutoInstaller or Slayer's disk to see if it loads up. If it does, you've successfully flashed the chip.

YYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!!!

I tried burning the disk with DVD Decrypter instead of Nero and WOW, I got the Slayer's Evox Auto-Installer screen!!!!! Man, I thought for sure that I fried the chip.

This all started a few weeks ago when my daughter asked me to copy her games for her.

So which items on the installer screen do I need to do? I am planning on connecting to pc with crossover cable to do the game back-ups.

Here are the screen choices:

1) reset/reboot
2) save bios/eeprom (xbox c:\backup)
3) new install/full rebuild
4) apps/upgrades/lock/format
5) change startup dashboard
7) eeprom/flash mod chip or xbox tsop
8) system settings
9) power off xbox

Thanks again
