I just bought a Plextor PX-755UF that has the capability to burn DVD+R DL media at 10X. I have 2 questions:
First, the only 10X discs I could find are the Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x discs (product # 95484), and they mention that they will burn at 10X on high-speed burners, but seemingly as an afterthought. Does anyone know of a good DVD+R DL disc that will burn at 10X besides the Verbatim? If not, does anyone know where to get those discs in lager quantities than a 15-disc spindle?
My second question is about quality vs. speed. Has anyone tried burning a DVD+R DL at 10X? How does it compare with the same disc, burned at a slower speed?
My best burns on DL Verbs are at 2.5x on my Plextor anything faster and the quality really started dropping. The fastest burn was at 8x and my firmware is up to date. Joeryan has a report on the newer DL media in the Ty thread, when I get back from work I'll look it up and post the link for you. Chris

Thanks for the reply. I might check BB to see if they have any deals, so I can play around with them a little.
OTOH, maybe I should just wait & save the money, since my dvd player & TV are pretty old (read: obsolete). I'm planning on getting a nice TV sometime this year, but as for now, I can't tell a difference between an original DVD9 and a half-size backup.
Really, I just want to play with the technology.
Also, for burning DL discs, I heard Nero was problematic. Any experience there?
BB will be having Verbatim DVD+R DL on sale beginning tomorrow; 20-pack/$29.99. For other deals, look here.
As for fast burning on DLs, I strongly advise against it. Atleast I would not go above 4x. But that's my opinion. Most others here will agree, although I'm sure some have achieved very good results at 8x+.
Steady as she goes and you'll be very pleased.
Edit: Nero nor Roxio have proven good for me burning DLs. I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I've had one DL coaster with that combo, but it was an ID10T/DAU error on my part.
I really don't have a good reason to want to burn a DL disc at 10x besides that I can. Sticking to slower speeds is not going to be a problem. I think I'll give it a try at 10X, just to see what the results are like. I paid for a Plextor, so I might as well push it & see if it can successfully do what it claims to be able to do. I did review one benchmark, and it said it pretty much topped out at 8X. I'll pick up some 10X capable disks and give it a run.
