I've got a Samsung Writemaster DVD burner. It burns at 16x, but in the last few months I've noticed that it has started getting slower and slower: it takes the same time to burn at 16x as it does at 4x or 8x.

A guy on forum suggested that I uninstall the secondary IDE drivers on my PC and then reboot the computer, but I'm not sure about that. Is it safe?

Does anybody have any ideas about why the burner is going slower?

cheers.

the drive/burner may have slipped into PIO mode whereas they need to been in DMA mode. so yes uninstall the secondary IDE drivers on your PC and then rebooting the computer will work and is safe. or you can try getting the drives back in DMA mode using this guide

I checked and it's not in PIO mode. I tried uninstalling the IDE drivers. under the advanced tab of my secondary IDE drivers, it says this:

DEVICE 0
Device type: Auto Detection. (this one I can't change)
Transfer Mode: DMA if available.
Current Transfer mode: Multi-Word DMA mode 2

DEVICE 1
Device type: Auto Detection.
Transfer Mode: DMA if available.
Current Transfer mode: Not Applicable.

Does this look right?
How long should it usually take to burn a full dvd movie at say 8x?

to transcode and burn a movie it should take anywhere from 20 to 35 mins. depending on how long the title is
