When I installed bitcomet, a dll file called bitcometres.dll was one of the files installed.
There is almost no information about this file online but I did manage to figure out that it has something to do with "BCTP" linking - which I believe has to do with bitcomets ability to initiate the download of a file by clicking on a webpage without the user having to first manually download the .torrent file.
Here's the strange thing: a couple weeks after I installed bitcomet, I realized that this dll was now suddenly on my desktop also ... not a shortcut, but a second copy of the dll actually on the desktop BUT with a date that showed it was created ten days later.
Upon checking the created and modified date of that file on my the desktop, I found that it was put there when I was downloading a .rar file of some misc software with bitcomet.
And upon a search, I found a third separate copy of that same dll in my systems folder ... but it had a created and modified date of 4 months before I ever installed any torrent software (bitcomet) on my system!
So that's ...
Copy 1 - in the directory that bitcomet was installed in (E drive)
Copy 2 - suddenly on the desktop of the C: drive - 10 days later.
Copy 3 - in my Systems folder on the C: drive - but with a Creation and Modified date that was from 4 months previous. At a day and time where *nothing* else is showing Created or modified around it.
The file sizes of all three show as the same ... and upon opening all three of them in Notepad, they appear the same.
I'd be very interested to hear any input ...
Question: Does any of this sound like evidencce of an exploit etc that anyone can think of?
Question: Any suggestions as to why a dll would be installed to my desktop of all places.
