Hi, sort of a n00b but I've read/learned a lot already, so sorry if there's some similar thread out there that I didn't see ^^; Just wanna ask which psp iso format should I go with? Original ISO, CSO, or DAX? (yea, I know there are apps to switch between them, just wanna know which to use regularly)

Does CSO always shrink the ISO a lot or does it sometimes make it bigger or no change? I also heard since CSO is compressed the game can run slower. More free space or less slow-down?

And how good is DAX compared to CSO?

I'm not really into stripping files off the ISO so yea...
Thanks!

ISO is the best if u can fit it on your me stick. CSO is the next best. its smaller than the ISO but the game runs slower. And ive never tried DAX.

Are the slow downs frequent for CSO? I imagine the compression affects loading times too?

the load time is normal but the games run pretty slow. If you can fit the game on your mem stick then stick with iso format.

So far I never noticed a differance between iso and cso except for 1 game it was one of the GTA's. That is the only game I ever had or noticed any problem with so I just run that 1 game as a iso and all my other games are cso. thats my personal experiance.

I tend to backup my UMD games to ISO uncompressed at first, then I fire up UMDGen to reconvert, edit, and search for dummy files and/or padding and remove if its there, this can save *loads* of space, the filesystem of the UMD is quite strict. You can also choose to remove the FMV Videos (*.PMF) and BGM/SFX Audio (*.AT3) to shrink the original ISO from 1.86GB down to a much smaller size.

After your done with the image save it as an Compressed ISO (*.CSO) wait for UMDGen to finish building the image and play! Iv never had a slowdown problem with 3.03 OE and all my games are CSO - even better since OE-B were able to run UMD/ISO/XMB in 333Mhz mode with full WiFi support! I have used DAX a few times, I see it as a Beta version of CSO, it has a feature called NCA (Non Compressed Area) which allows you to compress the image except for the Movie and Audio files. Compatibility between CSO and DAX, CSO wins hands up.

Most uploaders go with ISO's and CSO's. I like ISO's to get all you can out of the game but as far as playing games on the go, CSO's are good. I've never tried DAX but I hope to soon. I just want to see how clean they run.

oosel i agree.. ive only sensed slow down in gta vice city and gta libert city but then the rips of nfs carbon in cso also go slower... and dragon ball shin too... so i got most games in cso and some in iso but usually they make no difference.. im just doubting on my virtua tennis sometimes

Thanks all! Just wondering one last thing, any good guide links for removing dummy/padding files? Cause you guys convinced me it's worth doing it to fit more games on the go.

Just use UMDGen, it will safely remove the junk files and can save as ISO, CSO or DAX.
