I'm new to making backups of DVDs. I would like to use dual layer media so that I don't have to compress files. How much should I expect to pay per disc? Where is the best place to buy blank media?

Thanks

Locally, check with Best Buy, Office Depot, etc.
Online, check places like:
http://www.newegg.com
http://www.supermediastore.com
http://www.meritline.com

For DL burning, you'll get the best results using Verbatim DL discs.
Best Buy has sales fairly often, that sells the 10 pk. for $20.
Wal Mart sells the 3 pk. for $11.88 regular price.

If you need software and help burning DL discs, see the pages here:

Very good guides there.
Good luck!

JVC,

Thanks for your help. I will periodically check w/ Best Buy. $2/disc is a good deal. When I checked in on this a couple years ago, the discs were around $10 each, thus not worth it to make backups. Thanks again.

There is one or two people here, that post sales for the coming week, at different stores. Keep an eye open for those threads, and check them out. They'll usually let you know when the sale is gonna happen. It's always in the DVD±R media forum (this one).

I use ritek DL 8x DVD+R for backups, I buy them from supermediastore.com
$1.79 per disc, If you want to go with a lower speed, you can get the 2.4x for around $1 per disc, and the 4x for around $1.25 2.4x = 45 to 50 minutes to burn full dvd, I'd reccomend at least the 4x
