Why is DVD-R more Popular than DVD+R

Dash is cheaper if you purchase off the web. Same price as the Plus format when you buy it at brick and mortar stores like bestbuy,office max,etc. We still never figured that one out yet.

That's price difference is the major reason,for myself as well. Check out the price differentional on Inkjet printable media-dash is almost half the price,especially in the shiny's.

Plus format can be booktyped,which is a huge asset for stand alone compatability.Way superior than the dash and non booktyped plus format backups. Probably a lot of people don't have a clue on that,so they go with the dash.

Saugmon is so right a ton of peeps have no idea about booktyping DVD+R to dvd-rom i used to only buy DVD-R but now i will only buy DVD+R :)

Yea thats what I buy is the + cause they convert too ROM. About an hour of browsing the Internet I kinda figued the price diff between + and -. Thanks for your post cause it backed up my guess.

It's also kinda like the whole VHS/Beta war thing as well ! Not exactly but similar ! DVD-R was released as a format 1st. , has a little more compatability as compared to NON-Booktyped DVD+R (On Older players ) and I think they have more companies good & bad making them ! DVD+R was developed next !supposedly after looking at what could be improved upon on DVD-R ? Is slightly less compatable in older players -say anything made more than 2 or 3 years ago, But has the ability of being booktyped ( If Dvd Burner supports this Feature) and if booktyped is the most compatable of all! If your player is of fairly new manufacture -less than 2 years or so It'll probably play anything you put in it ! or as some members have said in other post "it'll play a pizza if the cheese isn't to thick !also I can't vouch for the truth of this as fact ! But I seem to recall seeing somewhere about DVD+R that -DVD+R has to Meet certain minimum technical standards to be called or sold as DVD+R ! (like VHS tape - Tape Phooey !!!!!- That's what the VHS logo on the tape box/sleeve means ! The tape can exceed those minimum standards improving the quality of the tape ! But it must meet them! Supposedly DVD+R is the same ? Possibly accounting for the price difference when bought in bulk online ? Which really does'nt make much sense because buying branded media both DVD-R& DVD+R are the same price ! Having used & still using both formats for me they're about what and what! if you are comparing media of equal quality ? If you are'nt having any compatablity problems with DVD-R and or you don't want to or can't booktype with the burner you have then go with The DVD-R it works & it's cheaper atleast online ! If you are booktyping and or buying media for a standalone DVDR -DVD Recorder ( many are DVD+R only format) Then DVD+R is what you need ! If you have no problems with playing either format then pick/use whichever you like , your burner does well with, or whichever you get the best deal on ! That's kinda a cop out I know !but in the end the decision is yours ! Later friends!

Ok so i have the pioneer 111d burner which does automatic booktyping. Should i in turn go with DVD+R because it will be the most compatible with dvd players? Sometimes when i backup i try to watch that same movie at my parents house that worked on my player, but not theirs.. In closing DVD+R when booktyped is the most compatible? thanks guys
