I used to own a skip doctor before, they work great...but they remove a tiny layer of the disk and makes it look kind of arkward, and was wondering if the new one still do this and if the disk quality would be good or bad?

I've tried a gadget similar to what you had, but never found they do a good enough job. There are times when I buy a DVD and it gets scratched before it's backed up. I simply drop in to my local "hire a movie" store, and they use their industrial machine to remove the blemish and restore it to original condition. They also play the disc in part, just to make sure.... then they charge me $5.00 per disc... better than throwing it away I guess. All you have to do is ask 'em.

PS: Tried this method with PS1 and 2 games, they looked great, but a no go for me.
I still have a Skip Dr., but never use it anymore. It did pretty good most of the time, but left a strange pattern on the surface, as ncasx noted.

How does your disc get scratched up so fast? The only discs I have that have scratches, are a few I bought from pawn shops, and they still play just fine.
One of our local pawn shops, has the industrial machine, for buffing out the scratches. They charge $1.99 for each disc. It does an outstanding job. A friend had a game disc (ps2) that had a very bad, deep scratch on it. I thought it wasn't possible to repair it. He took it to the pawn shop, and let them use their machine on it. He figured he had nothing to lose, since it didn't work anyway. Three to four minutes later, he had his disc looking and playing like brand new! Call around to your local pawn shops and game stores, and ask if they do disc repairs............ :o)

You probably would find it more economical to try one of the options the other members posting to your question mentioned but for what it's worth I thought you maight like the information ! If the scratches are relaltively minor /moderate you might try polishing them out with a soft cloth & some Brasso polish - It's cheap ,slow & tedious but it has been known to work ! also if you dont't have one of those rental or game shops near you that can resurface your disc you might also try rubberdisc.com they do that sort of thing & if they can't fix it there's no charge -see website for more info ?

With brasso...i have tried it and gotten more scratches. I wipe away from the disk and not in circular motions. I been having alot of lags with psp umd also i poped the wite/clear case apart and got access to the disk but afraid to use brasso. Dont think there are any good scratch remover for umds.
Ncasx- While I don't game myself ! No playstation or whatever game console /box is hot now ! My oldest grandson had a PS2 Game disc - GTA San Andreas that he Scratched up to the point of unplayability ( Well maybe his lil' brother helped some too !) We took it to a GameShop with a pro-quality machine & $3.00 & about 3-5 minutes later it looked brand new and played like new ! so as the other esteemed members recommended going that route may be the way to go ! I'm guessing you are getting the wear & tear mainly on your kids games ? If that's so you might want to investigate having a Mod Chip installed on your Gaming Console so you can play back-up copies of the games keeping the originals safe & scratch free ! something you probably already thought of ! If it's dvd movies they're wrecking/scratching up you could pretty much do the same ! give'em the backups to play & keep the originals as your Master recordings !regardless I wish you good luck however you choose to remedy your problem ? most of my system are modded because of that...but Sony PSP are a different story since sony didnt release UMD the only way to backup game is play the game on the memory stick which take alot of space. If game stores can unscratch PSP umd than that would fix my prob, but so far dont think they do.
