Ripping DVD to harddrive

I want to rip a DVD to my harddrive. When I use ripping software (Nero, bitRipper), the software just sits there for a few minutes until a "No disc inserted" message pops up. There's a DVD in the computer but the software doesn't recognize it or something.
Is this the DVD's anti-ripping features? How can I get around this and rip the DVD?

or
DVDFab Decrypter

just to add i like using dvdfab. 2nd choice would be ripit
