Just wondering what exactly makes the S-Video Jack better than the [Red,white, and yellow] cables. Ive heard multiple things and the compromises to those things... soooo someone set me straight.

S-Video was good before Component Video became standard.

S-Video offers a better picture than regular Composite Video (Yellow RCA) because it separates the color information from the gray scale information so that there is no degradation in the gray scale (contrast). But since the color information is still carried in one cable there is still some degradation in the colors. Thats where Component Video Comes in.

There use to be a night and day difference between Composite Video and S-Video but inventions like the digital comb filter that separates the color info from the gray scale info when using Composite Video have marred the line between the two technologies. The only obvious choice for better video quality is Component Video.

What is S-Video?

S-Video - Better than "composite video because it seperates the luminance (white level) and chrominance (color information). Used on DVD's, TV's, Satellite receivers and Cable TV boxes. Also used on some Computers with TV outputs.

Only if you're using a TV that does not have a 3D digital comb filter.
If you use the S video on a set that has a 3DYC filter, the S video is bypassing that filter.

The 3DYC digital filter with composite is better than an S video.
When S video came out they did not have these kinds of filters like they have today.
I connected my laser disk through the S connector, and the composite is better because I have the Sony LCD XBR 3DYC filter.

The 3DYC filter is activated when you have these connections

Composite
RF

It is bypassed when using

S
Component
DVI
HDMI

720p/60
The fastest and best resolution format!
