I have a bunch of music videos on my computer, that were converted to .avi format, and appear to be fine and in working condition. My intentions were to make a DVD (or maybe even a CD) that would play in my DVD player where I could view the collection of music videos of my choosing. In addition to this, I wanted to create a menu system where I could navigate through which videos I was interested in and such.

Okay, so now that I got that small tidbit of information out of the way, I can explain what happened. After doing some brief research, I figured out that Nero Vision was capable of doing what I was looking for. There is even a simple menu interface where you can control the look and the feel of it, along with other options as well. It came to my attention that I could burn a VCD that could, "Play in most DVD players," and this sounded exactly what I wanted.

I am not sure if many of you are familiar with the process or not, but I'm guessing if I came here and was willing to ask...you know what I am referring to. So in the burning stages, it transcodes all of the videos first, then it continues on with the burning process. Everything seemed to be all right, but upon putting it into my DVD player to see if it would work, the DVD immediately started skipping.

I put in another DVD after seeing this and it played it fine. For some reason however, the screen is in a constant state of jumping and skipping repeatidly, and no amount of cleaning the disc seems to work. I asked for advice from a friend of mine and he suggests that maybe it has something to do with a codec...but this process is really new to me, so I have no idea what I need to solve this problem. Please let me reiterate that I burned a VCD, and not a DVD Video, because from what I understand...you cannot create a menu system through DVD Video. I could be completely wrong about this, but I've tried looking it up and I've found nothing but a dead end.

Sorry this was so lengthy. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

why didn't you make a DVd? I don't understand why you wanted a VCD? You have AVIs and NeroVision could do this job easy! so can ConvertXtoDVD, with menus and everything! both programs can do this job easy!

Usually when you have playback issues like skipping, pixelations, freezings, it's the media and nothing to do with the software! Some media just doesn't want to play right in certain players. that's why I like to use +R media of DVD and booktype to DVD-ROMs so it's more compatible with DVD players! Try using a blank DVD instead of a CD! read more:

there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.
