What is the easiest way to play backups on your GC?

I just want to be able to dl any game and play it on my GC.

1. What do I need to do in order to do this?

2. Would it be better to do this on the Wii since the Wii reads regular size CDs?

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

To play backups, the easiest thing to do is "mod" your gamecube.
That is install a mod-chip inside your gamecube which allows it to play burnt games.
the easiest way to do this is to have a pro do it for you, there may be one in your area(try in the paper under electronics, some installer's advertise that way)
If you are competent with a solder gun and the like you can install it your self, but you will need to order items online to do so (the chip itself, a special screwdriver to open the cube's case)
There are some different modchips available for the cube with varying prices and features(some allow you to play games from other regions with options to force pal/ntsc video for instance)
modification will void your warrenty
But thats the price you pay if you want more from your cube.
make sure that the chip you get allows "direct booting of backup games" some people use there computer to stream games from their PC harddrive to the cube thru its network connector.
if your looking for simple this is ot the kind of chip you want

personally I think the 'easiest' way to play backups is with the sd gecko and action replay, no need to even open your gamecube, it's all software. Just my two cents.

ps2 v7 with matrix infinity and 160gb hdd
pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom
Windows XP Pro
psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware
Gamecube with SD Media launcher, SD Gecko, and Action Replay.

How can you make backups of gamecube games? The discs are so small.

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

You can buy "mini dvd-r" format.
They are commonly used in cam-corders, but are the correct size for GC.

jgarces07:The shoulder buttons on my DS (not Lite) are not working. Any advice?
nintenut:This is going to sound a bit odd, but it works, put your lips around the trigger and blow really hard, it works.
bee_cup: My DS Lite L button don't work...
nintenut: Put your mouth on it and blow, gets the dust out, and sounds obscene!

I say easiest way is to buy Xeno or any other samelike chip that works in stealth mode, only booting backups. Easy to solder, no wires and ur done. Easier than PSX's mod chip.
Advantages is that no need to swap anything, no updating firmwares, booting everything.

The future is not set. Theres no fate but that which we make for ourselves.

why bother with soldering anything when you can use the datel sd media launcher? the ONLY thing you MAY have to do is adjust your laser pot, and that's a VERY simple tweak.

ps2 v7 with matrix infinity and 160gb hdd
pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom
Windows XP Pro
psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware
Gamecube with SD Media launcher, SD Gecko, and Action Replay.

That adjusting the POT stuff looks crazy. Who has multimeters lying around their house? I don't.

I have never really been a tech savvy person and always go for the option with the least chance of user error (me fucking up).

I think the best option for me would be to get a mod chip installed.
With the Datel SD Media Launcher you still will probably open the system up to adjust your pot and still have your system run backups. I would rather let pros mod my system and write backups without having to do the extra crap the Media Launcher would have me do.

Maybe I should just wait until Wii mods get stronger and play GC backups on the Wii.

IT JUST PLAIN SUCKS THAT ALL BACKUPS DRAIN THE LASER AND THE LASER DIES, WHY CAN'T WE OVERCOME THIS FLAW?

1. Freeloader won't allow you to play backups will it?

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

freeloader just allows you to run original PAL games on an NTSC system and vice versa.

pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom

psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware

There WILL come a time when you'll have to tweak your pot or replace your laser, even when using ritek g04 minis....it's just the nature of the beast.
