DVD rom drive not working

hi my dvd rom drive has not been working for a while now. my cd-rw drive works fine but the dvd drive cannot read anything at all. i've done the windows troubleshoot procecudre but that lead to nowhere. i clicked in the properties of it and went to driver details.there is no checkmark by the gearspidWDM file. any help would be appreciated.

any exclamation marks in device manager? any error codes like 39?

uninstall the drive in device manager, restart windows so can load it's driver

i uninstalled it in the device manager. then i restarted and it just showed up again, like i didnt uninstall it. it still doesnt work.
