compared to verbs? i have been using Sonys ever since i drifted away from being cheap and buying best buy brand Dynex's. i have yet to have a quality, or burning problem with any sonys, and ive gone through several 100 spools, and 50 pack spools backing up all my old movies.
reason why i ask is, i just bought some sony DL's 25 pack on sale at best buy today, so i thought id ask.
I too used Sony discs for a long time. Then a couple of weeks ago
I purchased a 16X 100 pack of SL. The burns I got were awful-hiccups,
freezes, etc. When I checked it out the discs were only being read
by my burner as 2.4 and 4 times. You could not get a decent burn on
them even at those speeds. So I took them back to the store. The
customer service at the store told me they had gotten a lot of them
back. My burner will burn several other brands at 16X so it had to
be those particular discs. Don't know if it was just that batch that
was bad or if it is their formating on all of them.
i got a pack of 50 Sony DVD-R Sl from staples maybe a month ago, and have gone through about 20 with no problems. (knock on wood) i though Sony was considered the good quality ones? (beside verbetim etc.)
I got the discs at a Staples as well. The ones I purchased were
+R 16X. In the past I have used both the + and - 8X Sony with no
problems. My burner is burning other brands of 16X just fine.
I can't complain about the +16x,both japanese and taiwanese- SonyD21. I get consistant 94-95 score's for my Nero disc quality scans. I only go 4x and 8x on them. I've burned over 500+ with only a coaster or 2. My Benqs and plextor handle them as well as my Ty,Verbatim,Ritek,Ricoh, and Hitachi media.
Majority of issues with Sony 1x-16x media: Lots of people having to update their firmware-a simple fix unless your drive hasn't had a firmware update in ages..
