Backed up 'disks' skip on DVD player HELP!!

Hello!
I think this is my VERY first post and hope I can get some advice.

I use VERBATIM DVD -R disks.

On my OLDER Toshiba and also my older portable DVD player (not sure which brand it is. a cheapy to say the least) my back ups play fine!

On my NEW Toshiba the have pauses and get stuck. This makes the movie almost to frustrating to watch.

I use AnyDVD and CLONEDVD2 and also burn with that program. I have tried different packs of the VERBATIM's also. I burn at 4x max and also have nothing else running during the burn.
All and all the back ups are fine except with the ONE DVD player. Hell - even the DVD player in my Ford plays them perfect. Any thoughts?

You're in tip top shape, there's nothing that you're doing that's wrong! A perfect score....happy days. Ditch the player.

1) You've got some quality media there
2) Try to up the burn speed to 8x,in which Verbatim 16x media was created for faster burning.
3) Lets hope you aren't slapping any sticker labels on them.
4) Other drives verify those backups are ok

If the faster 8x speed don't help,slap a hard lens cleaning disc in that toshiba player.Sounds like a dirty laser lens,but the cleaning disc is a last resort,before replacement. Those discs are known to ruin drives.

There's still some other culprits to keep an eye:

Compression-keep to a minimum
Backup target size-if issues occur at the end of your backups

Over a dozen things can cause those issues and you ruled out most of them.

Ditching the player - would love to.

Am looking at upconvert DVD players... thought on brands??

I will try and up the speed. - Never really crossed my mind really. I thought 4x would be better than 8x. Will try it this evening.

Those el-cheapo players at walmart usually play everything you slap in them. If you get a new player,make sure it's from a store with an easy return policy. After testing some various brands and formats in that player-then you can easily take it back in a worst case scenario.

Try a lens cleaning disc as a last ditch effort. When I hear of people having playback issues with backups,usually the brand name Toshiba pops up.

I purchased an upconverting Philips 5960/37 at Best Buy for $70. It
has played everything I've tried on it. The upconverting feature has
really been great on my LCD TV. A lot of DVD players are picky-this
one doesn't seem to be. If you get one just don't pay $100 for an
HDMI cable. I got one off the internet for $7 with free shipping.
Best Buy has a 30 day return policy which gives plenty of time to try
it out.

Best Buy?
I have done plenty of returns at Best Buy.
Never been charged a re-stocking fee. My answer is a No on that one.
Note: They Are pretty strict on return time limits and having your receipt though!
Edit: I HATE Sony, however, they have a VERY good DVD Player, and a 1 year warranty. Highly recommended to buy. I have one. It plays anything I put in it, and I must say has some very awesome features not seen in other brands.
