I keep burning coasters when i try to burn a simple dvd data disc and add some DivX files and some video that i recorded via my tv tuner card.
Nero keeps failing to burn with write error, and whenever it fails is when it says its creating dvd high compatibility borders, and then its does this successfully but then fails. Thing it it only does this for some media files. I don't understand why this is happening as it should not fuss over the file as its a data disc and should theoretically burn anything you throw at it.
And it's not my media as i have burnt many successful dvd's with it.
Could someone also point me where to download the latest firmware for my pioneer 110D
here is my log:

Try here for firmware:

This is almost always a media issue but the media you are using is not all that bad, so the firmware update may fix this. You could try slowing the burn speed down to 4X and see if that helps.

Quote: Nero Version: 7.5.9.0
Internal Version: 7, 5, 9, 0
use a more stable version of Nero 7: 7.5.7.0
Before updating to this version .... save your serial #, uninstall Nero, then use this free registry cleaner called CCleaner, then Nero7 Clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html reboot and defrag!
and then reinstall 7.5.7.0 from here

RITEK is supposed to be decent media.... but your firmware is old and sometimes manufacturers revise their quality and not all disks are the same even though you bought a spindle or box of these! Quality can change from disk to disk unless you buy first class media MIJ (Made In Japan), Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, Fuji and others that have the MIJ on it's label of the box or spindle... or just buy Verbatim which is top notch media but made in Taiwan/Singapore and the only NON MIJs getting anywhere near my burners!
Also noticed these are 16x disks... and without that firmware update you might have problems. Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition. Doing a firmware upgrade should only improve your drive.

when having problems with Nero it's wise to get rid of Roxio/Sonic as these programs are Packet writing programs (this driver is from Roxio/Sonic) that could interfere with DVD burning! Some members computers say they can co exist together without problems.... other members say that when they did uninstall Roxio/Sonic their Nero worked! go figure... I would uninstall if I was having problems with Nero!
try these changes and report back ...... hope this solves your problem. good luck and welcome to AfterDawn!

Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
read this about ATAPI: http://ata-atapi.com/
are there other problems with this drive?

nah i never have had issues with this drive until now. I upgraded my firmware to 1.41 and i also removed my virtual dvd drive (disabled it in Daemon Tools)and now it works fine! not sure if it were my firmware or the virtual drive causing the issue.
it's funny though that before this the burn failed only was happening with some specific movies or video files. soon as i singled out the problematic ones it burnt 80% of my movies fine.
kudos IHoe for your detailed help and fast response, i am going to upgrade to the latest Nero 7.7.5.1. Do you suggest this?
Thankyou!

I'm still using the most stable version of Nero 6 which is 6.6.0.18 and it's fine for me! I don't really need Nero 7 yet so I'm sticking to what works for me! I don't know if the latest version of Nero 7 is stabler than 7.5.7.0! This is what I was told is a stable version of Nero 7 so I've been advising members to this version when they are having problems with Nero 7. I'm happy to have helped a fellow member and I'm just doing what was done for me when I joined AfterDawn. And still members are helping me when I do have questions and problems! that's what AfterDawn is all about. Members helping members! Welcome to AfterDawn.
