I haven't seen this problem mentioned so maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've backed-up maybe 40 movies with Shrink DVD 2.x - no problems. With 3.0 b5 after the analysis I click on Re-author and a new blank main window opens. I can't drag the Main Movie to this window; nothing in the original main window (with the DVD info)allows me to get the main movie away from the rest of the junk. Like I said 2.x worked fine for me. What am I doing wrong? TIA.

I had this problem but what you have to do is firstly click on the + sign next to the main movie file and then highlight the correct file then click on re-author then drag the file into the new window. It works.

You just have to make sure you place the file on top of the New DVD folder.

Okay. thanks for the help. I finally got the operation back in business. The trick, for anyone reading this and wants to know, is to click "re-author" - then a new complete blank panel opens. Drag it off the first window so you can work. In the first window then click on the + sign next to the main movie. The folder will open into a short tree, usually just one item. Then drag the contents to the "new dvd" folder in the new window. Voila! Can you say non-intuitive? Heck, Shrink's free and works great for me. Well worth the effort. Take care.

Yeah, thats it, however, i hear when the beta version is complete and moves to a general release v3.1, it will not have that GUI

After using X Copy and Xpress for a long while now, I just recently tried using Shrink 3.0 b5. I gotta say I like it a lot, but I haven't found a need to use the "Re-author" at all. I just followed the instructions off of this site and no where does it even mention touching that button... It's pretty much been select drive, back-up, write with Nero 6 Ultra and thats it. Why is the re-author button there if it does nothing?

The re-author option allows you to rip the movie only (no extras).

It also gives you the freedom of chosing the exact level of compression and the ability to get rid of credits to enable a higher wuality output. It is a function I always always use.

Myself, I abhor lossy compression in any form. I can't even listen to MP3's without cringing. And bad enough the commercial DVDs we're backing up are compressed to start with :)
Reauthor lets me get most movies onto one disc with no compression or onto two discs, if need be. Most of the time I'm just want the main movie, anyway. I sure don't want menus that don't work. My $.02.

True - people forget that the DVD's are compressed by a very big amount before being put on to Disc.
