Hi, I have a new laptop which is supposed to be able to burn dvd's at 16x speed. I had these TDK dvd's which were 16x capable. My laptop would let me burn them at 8x using Nero 7. This was alright even though not as fast as I would like. Then I got these new Memorex 16x DVD+R dvd's. New my laptop will only burn them at 4x even thought they are 16x dvd's. Does anyone know what is going on. Is this Nero messing up? How can I make the laptop burn at 8x or 12x like my desktop can. Thanks for you help.

First, I would suggest you check with the manufacturer of your burner model to see (1) that you indeed have a 16X burner and (2)if your firmware is up to date. If not, the flash to latest version.

Second of all, be aware that even with the latest firmware, some burners will not burn all 16X rated media at 16X. It has to do with the firmware write strategy as well as the quality of the disk. There is a consensus that Memorex is not the highest quality of media. Many here on this forum rate TY and Verbatim as the best media.

Use Nero Infotool and tell us the MID codes of those memosux and Tdk discs. Also tell us your burner's brand name, model #,and current firmware version.

Also tell us that burner info from your desktop pc.

Get some 16x verbatim. There's also a difference among burners. Some will favor certain media and absolutely hates certain media.

Memorex is using a lot of Ricohjpn-R03-004 media for their +16x media and they are looking very good.I don't know how many other manufacturers they have for their +16x media.I'm sure there's some cmags out there, like in their slower 4x and 8x speed media.
