Lol not that I did this but I know people who have...
Either upgrade your firmware, and when your in a nice spot like 50% or so pull out your battery, that'll do it for sure.
Or
Rip out the little gold battery terminals, or get a screwdriver and scratch them ALOT
Or
Open up the PSP or just take out the battery and put it into a bucket of really hot water. Leave it in there for a while and make sure the water is quite hot, that'll completely screw it up internally and ruin the motherboard GUARANTEED, after 40 mins or so take it out, leave it outside, in the sun or an open space so it dries completely put it back together and voila ur PSP is toast.

or just tell the store that your returning it to that the psp won't load your umd's.... quite a bit simpler

You could just flatten the battery and say it won't switch on. I did this with my Ipod.
BTW don't you think that the store might have brought more than 1 new psp with that firware in a batch. You may get the same firware with a new psp

Don't know if you know this but the store will probablly have brought the psp's in a large quantity so if they give you a new one the chances are it will be the same firmware. Tough luck.

I would recommend just chilling. The homebrew developers are constantly coming up with downgraders. I'm sure a downgrader for 3.11 will come out in the coming months, but if u can't wait that long... good luck bricking.

There's no need to look for a japanese version. You can even run homebrew on PSPs with TA-082 mother boards. I would suggest looking for a US version PSP so that you don't run into any technical problems relating to a foreign PSP. Just look for a PSP with firmware lower than 3.03. There are downgraders for firmware up to 3.03. I don't even know how you found a PSP with firmware 3.11 that was only release a couple weeks ago.

The only differences between Japanese and US PSPs are the UMD Video region code (Japan and Europe are RC2, USA is RC1) and the different button configurations, simply X and O are swapped in their meaning (instead of "To chancel press O" it says "To chancel press X"). Both can be corrected with custom firmware 3.03 OE-X or 3.10 OE-A'. By the way, PSP games are region free, so that won't be a problem.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

what happens if the place you bought it from wont accept it back?
you just need to take it back say to them it wont load a specific game say it freezes as soon sa you hit the launch umd.
say you would rather have a new one of something and try that.
its seriously not worth bricking a psp on purpose, just not worth it.
PSP LIFE 2.60 > 2.71 > 1.50 > 2.71se-c > 3.03oe-c > 3.90 m33

the firmware was 3.11 and all the new ones in the store were 2.81,therefore i would have to downgrade using the unpatched lcs and it goes for as much as $80 on ebay.I just bought a prepatched one running 3.10 OE-A for $300 came with 2X 2gb sticks,4 games and a bunch of dvds with homebrew and games on them
