I'm trying to wait for a solderless version, I don't want to solder onto points if I don't have to.

What are the chances you guys think that a solderless version will be released?

For the ones who already modded theirs, does a solderless version even look feasible, seeing as how small the Wii is, is there even enough room for a solderless adapter to be installed?

"True sophisticated upgradability via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come) "

so does this mean if Nintendo does an update that disables the chip.. there will be a release to fix it?

Jon - Just take this time and think.

Can you image a game be played from your SD... no loading times "ban!"(or close)

i really want this so i can play my import games, but do i have to backup the game to play it or can i just pop in the disc and there we go it lets me play it. Also cost i hope its only about 40 bucks and comes with a nice instruction manual. Ive also never soldered before can someone tell me if its actually easy to do for a console and if the risk are really high i mean i know they are high as it is but will this destroy my wii if i solder wrong or something.

google "how to solder"

I wouldn't attempt it on your precious wii if you've never done it before. Read a guide and practice on some broken piece of electronics or find someone who's done it before.

I can solder pretty good, I soldered my PS1 chip in with no problems. Its just why do it if you don't have to....other than the not needing to align and crap. I like solderless because you significantly lower the chances of mistakenly causing permanent damage. On the other hand, I haven't really looked at the Wii's solder points yet, if their a nice size, and not too many of them, I would go with solder, but if I have any doubts, I'll wait for solderless.

I F'ed up my PS2 trying to solder a chip in there and kept jumping solder points, those things were to freaken tiny and right next to each other. After many tries I successfully soaked the solder up with a braid and used the swap disks.

Soldering is a pain in the ass ive done it a million times at school its "Cumpolsory" just like "Algerbra",.
Soldering is pretty easy just have a steady hand dont giv e it to an old Grandpa because he's had experience 30 years ago youd better be of doing it,Remember have a steady non shacking hand,Dont do it if you have parkinsons otherwise you are fine cmon there is a manual and points to where to solder how can you go wrong you think the Local Modchipping guy is qualified yeah if you can get a qualification when you are 16 which is the legal age t quit school here and youd hav to do at least 1 year course so why not do it your self the shop guy is just dumber.

Soldering is easy in the aspect that all you need is a hot soldering tool (650-700 deg F) and some resin-core solder. But it is difficult in the aspect of doing a clean, professional job that does not result in globs of solder on the boards (especially in places that you don't want them), overheating the boards and causing damage, or accidentally soldering to the wrong components and frying something.

Trust me...I found out the hard way a couple of times as a tech in the military, on parts that cost several thousands each. And that was using specialized micro-miniature tools and microscope.

I would get someone to help you who has experience and decent tools. Radio Shack tools are fine. Stay away from the hardware store.

If you don't have have both, I would wait for a solderless version or do without the "upgrade". It's not an upgrade if it doesn't work.

Good luck.

...but deadly for 12,000 years is Carbon 14.

I mean i dont think soldering will be too difficult it looks as if all i have to solder is like 3 holes. That shouldnt be too difficult to do. I guess i could just take like you said and old PC part ( i have some extra motherboards and a few PCI card ill never use again) if thats the case. Another place someone said its like using a hot glue gun just take your time go slow and it will be simple and easy. Honestly, i dont think that it will be too hard to solder it in and fudge it up, the manuals usually are pretty good about that stuff and if not my dads in an engineering firm which has some soldering tool i could ask one of his co-workers to do it for me since they do it professioally and deal with tons of tiny products (processors, connectors, etc.)

And this will let me play japaese import games so I really want to have this mod as well as be able to back up my wii games which all i have is a NEC 16x dvd burner im guessing now i have to get a special LG drive just to back up the games as it is. I just wish it was as simple as loading up alchohol 120% and putting in a ps2 disc lol. thats all i back up is ps2 and psp games really. everything else just seem like a waste (xbox1,cube)and the Xbox 360 is too new for me to try to modd it and i hear its rather difficult and I cant play my backups on XBL. So the wii will be my first nex-gen as well

The DS I heard will be having a new chipset so the backups wont run.

Oh, my bad, I thought I was the only one that mentioned something about soldering. You guys need to learn some "forum etiquette"....lol, whats so hard about pressing the "quote button" or saying "@" whoever the reply is for, so people know whose replying to what....especially when the threads start to get lengthy. I know a lot of times the reply is for the person above but this isn't the case most of the time.
