error message when i burn dvds

when ever i try and burn dvds,using DVD Shrink and Nero, at about 16% it comes up with an error message "could not recover TOC" and then ejects the disk. does anyone know what causes this or how to fix this problem?

This is not good. you need to close all programs running in the background.

Here's firmware update for the burner too - LX48.
File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS':
Nero's InCD can sometimes cause conflicts. So if you're not using it - uninstall it and run the clean tool.

Turning back on DMA probably need the trick as dialysis1 suggested.
If you updated the firmware may have helped too.
