First off, I have a NEC 3520 and I'm using the latest firmware.

I just got some Verbatim DVD-R 8x discs. I burned it at 4x with Imgburn. This is the result I got. I feel so depressed now :(

Do you guys think I'm burning it too slow? When I use my Sony 16x and burn it at 8x it's perfectly fine.

no, 4X is what i have burned all my 8X discs at for years. That is usually the best speed. have you tried any other programs like DVD Decrypter instead? Not sure why they would not work as Verbatim are a good brand and 4X is the correct speed to burn an 8X disc.

I'll give DVD Decrypter a try :)

Does the buffer affect burning? I noticed 1st 1/2 was fine. The 2nd 1/2 was horrible though.

I'm noticing a pattern on my bad discs. When I try to burn ISO's that are around 4GB, the last GB is always red on the results. The first 3GB are perfectly fine. Is that an indication that my drive is screwed up :(

Is there some DVD Drive cleaner that I can buy?

well according to that graph above the red is just a faster burning speed. I really have never used any program that gives a graph like that when burning. They have disc cleaners but they are really not that good. Plus if your burner can burn other things just fine it is not the problem. I am just wondering what is.
First suggestion of course is try burning with different software.
Next would be updating the burners firmware
Then a different media, some burners just work better with certain media. But a firmware upgrade can really help that out.
