eMachine W1800 HELP!!!!

I have a eMachine W1800 Desktop PC. And it is just not running as fast as I would like it. Its just stock parts I haven't done anything to it. And I wanna improve the speed and the performace of the pc to run my programs I have to it's potential. So Listed below is the specs of the pc. And what I need to know is what i should improve.

SPECS

*Type: AMD Athlon XP
*Speed: 1.53 GHz
*Manf: AMD
*Processor Qty: 1
*Ram Install: 256 mb
*Ram Tech: DDRSDRAM

Please can someone help me out here. My Pc is not running like how I would want it to. It takes like 5min to open my Adobe Photoshop. So please someone help.

adding more ram will improve its performance 256mb of ram 4 photoshop on xp is a bad idea 512-1gb is the "recommended" 4 photoshop on xp
