TMPGEnc 4.0 XPRESS and dual core processors

Right now I'm experimenting with TMPGEnc 4.0 XPRESS for the main purpose of converting video files/DVD's to Windows Media files to be streamed to my XBOX. Problem is that, especially with DVD's, encoding is painfully slow. In the options menu it acknowleges that I have a dual core processor, but only ever uses one of them.
Is there a way to free up the other core for the program?
Any other general tips/tricks for increasing encoding times would be appreciated.
I'm running a Dell XPS 400 with DC proc. @ 3.00 ghz
4gb memory
