I'm creating this thread to see what other people's opinion of the wii is.
All Playstation and Xbox fans, feel free to post your opinion in a constructive manner. If you have a reason for not liking the Wii you need to have some sort of reasoning.

Please post in the following manner:

Pros
the revolutionary controller.
The size(small).
Some great games.
The fun of playing with family members and Friends.
The fact that one does some exercise while playing.
The price, which is great compared to the other consoles.
The backward compatibility with gamecube games.
The ability to download your favourite SNES,NES,and nintendo 64.
Virtual Console Games .

cons
The small choice of games.
the amount of space needed for certain games.
can't play dvd's

well i have a lot to add

pros:

enjoy the size

great graphics for such a small unit

fun games

great price

controller works great in some titles only one title has issues with

cons:

1. the temperture of the console is scary especially when in the wii connect24 mode when the console is turned off

2. your virtual console games cannot be transfered to another console via memory card so if you loose it you have to spend hours redownloading it

3. the controller seems to loose connection with certain titles

including

zelda

and even wariowarez mini game thing

4.the virtual console games are expensive why would you want to pay 9.99 to even 20.00 for just 2 old games you can get for 1.50 at any local thrift store

5. compnent cables have issues soon to be resolved

6. and last but not least not all gamecube games are compatiblle with the component cable

Tablet, don't present your opinion as fact.

The component cable works with ALL wii titles. I have every wii game that is commercially available and I have the component cable and I'm running the wii at 480p. Not a single one of them has a problem with graphics.

I have 5 kids and every system on the market. Including several of the handhelds (ds's being the fav by my kids but I prefer psp). Out of all the consoles I think right now I prefer the xbox360. If you would have asked me this in Dec I would have said the wii and here's why.

Every system has their own franchises that you won't find anywhere else. Microsoft has Halo and others.

Sony has God of war, Final fantasy, and lots of other good ones

Nintendo however has my favorite all time franchise. Zelda. I love all the Mario games too.

When I bought my wii it was a fraction of the price of my ps3 and xbox360. I bought it with Zelda. I loved it from the start. Wii sports has to be one of the best all time games ever made. The replayability alone has made it an instant hit for family night in our house. I never get tired of that game.

Twilight princess was a phenomenal zedla game and I enjoyed that very much too. My feelings were that the xbox360 and ps3 were too heavily focused on graphics and there was a definite lack of gameplay fun. Nintendo filled that gap with the wii. My wife who doesn't like games was hooked on wii sports and actually played along with me and my kids. This was a mighty miracle in and of itself.

Then I got my wiinja. While I was waiting for it to arrive from Spain I burned through an entire spindle of DVD-R's with scene releases. Suffice it to say that when I had my wiinja installed, I had every wii game ever released. Next comes the disappointment.

I have YET to find a wii game where the graphics don't totally suck (zelda graphics were great I thought) and the gameplay doesn't blow. Not even my kids play the wii anymore. We're back on the 360 now. I'm holding my breath for the two mario's coming out this year and for Metroid to perhaps break the curse but right now I'm really disappointed in the wii library. I still love wii sports though. Great game!

As I've always said:
A game doesn't need good graphics to be good, but if the graphics are bad enough that they effect the fun of the game then it's the game's fault not the graphics.

I'm also highly disappointed with the small selection of games availible.
But 11 more games wii be coming out between now and the end of march, including the godfather.

Yea my oppinion on the wii is that its a party console... besides for Nintendo's old exclusives like Mario and Zelda and Kirby etc.

Of all those games that was listed above....all the ports that are also available on other systems are not worth getting at all.

The reason why people love wii sports so much (my self included) because its a great party game. Cuz you know if you play it alone it gets boring. I havent used the wii in over a month cuz iv beaten Zelda and wii sports is boring alone and i only play when my friends come over.

I see the wii being great for only games that were great on the Game cube. The typical and usual mario and zelda and smash bros exclusive games. The number of wii consoles sold may be great but i dont think multi console games will sell well at all... especially with the $60 price tag.

PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

The graphics hasn't really bothered me, I still play a lot of DOS and other retro games. I am almost through with Zelda and I am wondering what I am going to play next, there doesn't seem to be many titles coming out in the next month or so that would captivate me like Zelda did.

My one complaint would be in the save system. We have several people in our family that plays with the Wii and I haven't seen a game yet that allows you to save directly to the memory card, only to the system memory. That is a HUGE drawback to me since most games only give you 3 save slots. On the Gamecube or PS2 we each had our own memory card. So now if 4 of us want to play Zelda we have to insert a memory card, copy the save from system memory to the memory card, then change memory cards and copy our save to system memory. That is a very big hassle. Also if friends come over then they can't have their own save on a game unless we overwrite one of ours.

I see what your saying.
I haven't really had the chance to play with a lot of Friends because i only have 1 controller, but I'll be buying more.
Wii sports boxing is the only one i play now(i can't beat luca)on Wii sports.
To be honest I think that burnout must be pretty cool on the wii and exite truck too.
What I'm really impatient for though is games that are dedicated to a single sport(like tennis and boxing).

You can save the nintendo's internal memmory to an SD card.
:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/data.jsp

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/data.jsp#gcn

Important note: To save Wii console data (such as saved games, Messages, etc.) you must first connect your Wii console online and download the System Update. For more information on connecting your Wii console online, please click here.

1. To copy Wii game save dataInsert a compatible SD Card into the SD Card slot on the front of the Wii console, just below the disc drive.
2. Access the Wii Data Management screen (how to).
3. Select the file you want to save and select "Copy."
4. Select "Yes" to "Copy to SD Card."

Please note that while it possible to copy Virtual Console games to an SD Card and load onto another Wii console, the games will not be playable if they have not been previously downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel to that particular Wii console.

To save Message Board data to an SD Card
1. If you get a message on the Wii console that there is no more room for additional Message Board data, insert a compatible SD Card into the SD Card slot on the front of the Wii console.
2. Confirm that you want to save data to the SD Card.
3. A set number of messages will be saved to the SD Card, starting with the oldest messages.

Please note that if you do not insert an SD Card after the memory-full message, the oldest messages will be deleted automatically.

The wii's graphics are defenitly better than the gamecube, but i'm not so sure hat there better than the xbox.

Com to think of it;Why did they make wii sports have dodgy graphics?

The focus of Wii sports was to introduce consumers to the system. The gameplay, Mii characters, etc. Maybe they were driving the point that graphics aren't necessary to make a AAA title.

Plus, if Nintendo spent a lot of money spicing the graphics up, it probably would've been too expensive to bundle with the console.

bunny_c where did you get that list? I can think of about 4 or 5 first party titles, slated to release this year, that weren't in there.

I think i remember asking that people share there opinion in a "constructive manner".When it comes down to it,you only see one real fault in the Wii,it having "crap" graphics.
I THANK YOU for sharing your opinion, but would you care to extend your reasoning.
And please modify your reply to: "I don't like the wii because the graphics are not as good as i want them to be."
That would pretty much sum up your opinion of the wii.
This slight irritation i have when reading your post is not because your a ps3 or xbox fan,it's more the "it's crap"attitude that irritates me as it is not constructive.

Sir_BMW you're definitely entitled to your opinion. However, I don't think those that say graphics don't matter are fooling themselves. I have all the old emulators running on my xbox and I freakin love to play the old nes and snes games that were actually FUN to play.

I grew up playing games that didn't have the greatest technology in graphics so they actually had to focus on gameplay. My little brother's first game console was the Dreamcast and he, like you, can't stand to play the older games because he thinks the graphics suck. Now I'm not saying that he is right or wrong, but I think it has a lot more to do with the games you first played.

I have felt over the years that gameplay is slowly loosing in the "order-of-priority-for-programmers" war. While graphics and media functionality are getting more realistic and ever more impressive, I'm finding it increasingly dificult to find a game that grabs me and holds me till the end because it's actually FUN TO PLAY. My little bro on the other hand, is motivated by graphics and technology, and uses that as a barometer on how fun it is to play a game. To each their own. My personal opinion on the wii....

Wii sports is one of the funnest games I've ever played. My wife and kids and I play almost every night as a family. Zelda was fantastic. Am i disappointed in the wii? Of course, but not because of the graphics. It's because other than wii sports and Zelda, I haven't found a game that was very fun to play at all.

There are also exceptions to the rule. There are games out there that have fantastic graphics and in my opinion are extremely fun to play. Here is a list of the ones that I really like (not specific to any one system)

The entire Legacy of Kain series
All the Zelda's of course
Rygar (the new one on the PS2. The original was great too)
Halo 1 and 2
All the Metroids
All the Mario's (I know, not the best graphics but ground breaking at the time)
and my personal favorite...... God of war... (can't wait for gow2)

If I tried to make a list of all the games that I felt lost their reputations as a fun franchise, this post would be pages long. Here is just a couple though that really have disappointed me.

Final Fantasy (I remember the first three were so fun. Now I feel like I'm just playing a character in a book with no real freedom to do anything besides play the script. Too many story scenes with too little gameplay)
Sonic (back in the day of the genesis there was nothing better. Have you played any of the recent ones. What a joke!)

bunny_c, I understand your frustration with sir_BMW but you did ask for his opinion. You can't really say his opinion should be worded any other way than the way he wanted to. You seem to be irritated because you don't share his opinion. I don't think the wii is crap at all but I wouldn't pretend to tell somebody else that they shouldn't post because it might have a negative tone to the wii. If he feels it's crap and feels that he has to say it 3 or 4 times in order to present his opinion (which you asked for) then go ahead and let him post. We need to keep an open mind and be willing to accept an answer to the questions we ask. (even if it's not the answers we want to see.)

Let's not forget about one of the best and most complete games of all time,SUPER MARIO 64.

A game should be judged on the fun, that's it!
if the graphics effect the fun then the game is not very good.

And faluke,
What did you think of red steel?
I enjoyed it despite the terrible reviews.
The movies are awful though.

I think I will get a WII .. I can't decide though ...

on the one hand its cheap ..and at 22 I dont want to invest allot of money in gaming ...

mostly I will use whatever system I get when i am stoned looking for something fun to occupy time but I kinda hate being left out of the whole GTA option...
