ok..I have DVD Decrypter and have backed up my DVD movies on my HDD. I then have been using Nero 6 Vision Express to burn onto DVD. However recently I have been having problems with Nero (vision express)...not burning problems...but Add file / importing problems

R6025 Pure Virtual function call error. No one on the Nero Forum can help so I was looking for another program to use to burn.

As I said, DVD Decrypter works fine for ripping my movies onto my hard drive....I now need a good burning software recommendation to condense and burn the DVD files to fit on standard 4.7 G DVDR that will work in my DVD player..

any recommendations??

Free is good. ImgBurn is one of the Best. Well received around here.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_so...ols/imgburn.cfm

Be sure to look in the Software and Guides sections for info. Depending on what you use to rip, it may need help. Excellent tools:

DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
DVDFab Decrypter
VOB Blanker
FixVTS
RipIt4Me

AND all are free!

looked at image burn but here is my question...

If I have successfully ripped a movie onto my HDD using DVD Decrypter, is the copy protection still present?

If not then image burn will work...if it is then image burn will not work.

I guess the only way to know would be to give image burn a try with a few of the movies I have ripped onto my HDD (via DVD Decrypter). If it burns....then all is well right?

If you have the files on your HD, the encryption is successfully
broken. I have both Imgburn and Nero on my computer. I use Imgburn
all the time because it is so simple and never causes me the problems
that Nero did. Check out the guides and user submitted guides on
this web site. There are some really excellent ones. Imgburn is
probably going to be the simplest program you've ever used.

If you have Nero just use Nero Burning ROM select DVD then DVD-Video format in the side window. You'll have two folders Audio_TS and Video_TS which is what you'll put all of your DVD IFO and VOB's files into, the Audio_TS isn't used of course.

Using Vision your typically re-encoding your movie files and can cause problems and takes more time.

thanks to all who responded...I will give image burn a try..

regarding Nero ROM Burn....

When I rip a movie in on my HDD...I only have one file on my HDD that contains both Audio and Video files(ripped from DVD Decrypter). will Nero ROM condense and burn a DVD video file on my HDD that is larger than 4.7G?

Example...Movie #1 DVD file on my HDD is 5.9 Gig. will Nero ROM condense and burn that file to a standard 4.7Gig DVDR that will play in my DVD Player? Apparently Image Burn will...but I am not sure bout Nero ROM....

thanks!!!

Some of the "newer" movies have encryption glitches built in. Once you rip to the HD you MAY need to run the Audio_TS/Video_TS files through Vob Blanker to clean up the bad files placed there by the movie company.

Here is my process:

Decrypter
Shrink
ImgBurn

If Shrink runs into a problem:

DVDFab
VOB Blanker
Shrink
ImgBurn

Works for me.

For clarification....Once I use DVD Decrypter I really only have one DVD file on my hard drive (Video and Audio is combined). So what do you mean by "Audio_TS/Video_TS" files?

Why do you need to use DVD Shrink prior to Imag Burn. Is that because Image burn does not condense the DVD file down to a standard 4.7 G DVD-R format?

This site rocks...you guys are really helping me out!!

Shrink will compress your file so it will fit on your 4.7G disc.
Alkohol has written a really good guide in user submitted guides.
It's titled RipIt4Me, Shrink, and Imgburn. RipIt4Me uses the
Decrypter you are already using, but it also uses FixVTS which
cleans up those difficult files. RipIt4Me has also successfully
done the movies the other programs have not been able to do.

nanook07,

That is correct ImageBurn will not condense your movie at all so you would need to run it threw something like DVDShrink, Nero recode, or CloneDVD2 just to name a few.
The overwellming odds on favorite here at AD right now seems to be using RipIt4Me. There are numerous ways to backup your DVDs you just need to find the one that works best for you. I have created some guides at my website to help you out so you might want to give one or two of those a try Link to Guides I would recommend using the first two guides there that should get you going in the right path.

Cheers

here are 2 guide with all free programs,
DVD decrypter will not be able to rip the newer dvds so its best to use either of these methods.

GUIDE 1 = DVDFab+VobBlanker+dvdShrink+IMGburn

GUIDE 2 = RIPit4ME = DVD decrypter+FixVTS+dvdShirnk+IMGburn

nope...was just using DVD Decrypter & Nero to burn.

now using the method described above..things work wonderfully.

One question...what would need to change in the above "Guide 1" process to burn DVD 8G Dual layer disks? That way I won't have to compress w/ DVD Shrink so much...

any ideas?

Just rip with DVDFab and burn with ImageBurn

You could run throgh FixVTS before burnig to be safe.

cheers!

but when I rip with DVDfab and try to go straight to Imageburn...I get a notice saying that Imageburn needs an ISO file to burn.. So I usually have to use DVD Shrink to create the ISO file prior to using Imageburn.

If I do go from DVDfab to imageburn...is there a setting in imageburn I need to change in order to do this? (look for non ISO files)

There are two options you could take here.

DVDFab will rip into ISO (image) from the start or
ImageBurn will also burn those files you don't have to have an ISO

Two things.

1st - THANK YOU!!

2nd - what the heck does ISO mean and how do I get DVDFab to create
an ISO file from the start?

ISO basically means an image of a disk. If I where at home I could provide you with a picture of how to rip in ISO mode with DVDFab Decrypter, but basically that little folder you click in the the top right of where you want to put your files, well just to the right of that is an icon to save as an image or ISO.
