Connect Samsung LE26R74BDX to pc

I have a Samsung LE26R74BDX and am trying to connect it to my pc so i can use it as the primary monitor.
I no that the tv can be used as a monitor so there is no problem there.
I am fairly technically minded with these sort of things but i just can't get it to work.
I have the correct VGA lead connected from my graphics card to the pc-in socket on the back of my television.
My Pc recognises that my samsung tv is connected but for some reason the PC option in the list of sources connected to the television remains greyed out and not available so I cant access it. Have had it checked by samsung technician and he took it away and said that it worked on his laptop.
Do I need to change any settings on graphics card??
Someone help me!!!!! any ideas greatly appreciated???
