Newbie to MP3 stuff any help advice
on software required/needed ...
( Have read a good few posts btw and done
a search for same questions but no answer found so far .. )

From what I have read/seen so far Musicmatch
Jukebox seems to be best allrounder - even do I would prefer a free program ;)

I need something that can id the differend types of mp3 files ( pro & i wont play ) for my car mp3 player as well as sort out tags and I couldn't find anything that can do this free.

Also would like advice on what are best settings to rip mp3s into

VBR MP3s, giving you bitrates around 200kbps
but I don't think this will work well with basic layout to a pioneer 3500 ( cheaper 1 )

My system can handle bit rate from 8 kbps to 320 - its suggests 128 as a min ..
Nowhere does it say VBR or CBR, etc...

Can you tell me which programs might be best for mp3 play not on a PC ??

For ripping + Encoding: Exact Audio Copy (EAC) + lame. Guide: http://www.cd-rw.org/articles/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

Tks I'll give it a go :)
If I can get it to work it looks like it
covers the rip and quality aspects well.

Is there anything to upgrade poor quality mp3s
or change mp3pro to mp3 ?

Most likely all processing that makes sound better in some points will make it (far) worse in others. Besides you'd have to decode and re-encode which always decreases quality. The only thing that could help in some cases (clipping) is applying mp3gain to reduce volume losslessly.

The only thing that works would be to re-rip and encode with lame from the original CD. ;)
