How to Add second controller on Sonic secret rings?

I have two remotes and cant for the life of me get the second controller active on Sonic multiplayer games. It seems to work fine on Wii sports but that give you a prompt to press 1+2 buttons any ideas Am i just being dumb?

it may be you have to press start on the wiiremote to select the second player or you may need to have the wii remote connected to the console when in the wii menu i dont know if the games support in game connection the only one i have use such a feature on is wii sports

chances are you can only use one wiimote in multiplayer. i was having the same problem with warioware until i realized you can only use one wiimote.
