Hello,
I'm currently in the process of burning my first DVD. I have downloaded DVD Shrink v3.2.0.15, DVDFab Decrypter, and the latest ImgBurn. I did not know how to use any of the software, so I searched through the guides and found this Guide . I am currently in the process of doing the DVD Shrink step. However, I have noticed that throughout the entire process, the pictures show DVDFab Decrypter ripping at 8.76 MB/s and finishing an entire movie in 17 minutes. My computer ran the process at 2.2 MB/s and took 57 minutes to complete. The same slow down is occurring for the DVD Shrink process as well. My question is, how can I speed up these processes. I do not know all the specifics about the hardware in my computer, nor do I know how to discover what they are. If anyone can help out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks much!

Hi corman246
Check and make sure all of your drives are in DMA mode and not PIO mode.
The current transfer and transfer mode should both have DMA listed.
Here's a guide

Well, I checked and both of my disc drives were set to DMA Mode. Could it be that my Sony DVD RW DRU-500A is just a little bit outdated in terms of technology?

Could be it is an older drive.

The latest firmware for it is 2.1A - here's a link.

What are the pc specs like processor and ram installed?

If you haven't recently do a disc cleanup & defrag. May help some but good to do on a regular basis.

Ok - right click on my computer (usually an icon on your desktop)>properties then the general tab. The info will be listed there.

Good specs on the pc. So does look like the drive is the main culprit.
Reads at a little more than 1/2 of the burn speed.

May just be time to get a new one to speed things up and one that supports more of the media out there now. Pretty cheap now. (unlike when this Sony came out - much cheaper)

Not a problem corman246

In the mean time if you haven't do a disc cleanup & defrag. You can do this by going to start>all programs>accessories>system tools. There are listed there.

I'd also run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues & cleaner options.

Then there's the virus/spyware scans.

All are good to do on a regular basis to keep the pc running slow and not bogging down.
