I have a tube of rosin core tin/lead solder. is this ok to solder a modchip like the wiikey on my wii system. I am a soldering newbie and never soldered before. would appreciate some advice. I don't want to solder with this stuff and it doesn't work. I will by some other stuff if it will work better or best. Thanks Guys.

I heard 30g kynar wire is pretty much a must have for any modder. Works with all chips current and past on another forum

I was actually wondering if any type of soldering wire would work and it is still kind of unanswered. I know what size wire to use now, though, if I decide not to use the quicksolder method. I hear the wired method is definitely the way to go, because you have a less chance of screwing up and I would imagine it is much easier to switch mod chips which I probably will want to do if they come out with a better one. So thanks for the help and the link. =)

it really depends there are two types of solder

1. is a thinner grade solder for electronics

2. is a thicker grade used in cars and computer mods

I got my solder at radio shack dunno what it was but i went for the better one where you get less for more money... I figure that im never gonna use 10 feet of it or whatever. Also if its your first time soldering make sure you get desolderer its a lifesaver ;)

some good soldering tips can be found here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/470328#2888238

The type of solder you want is resin core with flux built in. You also want the thinnest soldering wire you can find since you will be soldering to some very small contacts.

If you order from modchipstore.com you can buy a wire/solder kit for the wii for an additional 5 dollars ;)
