I was just wondering..
Do you guys think that in the future dvd authoring companies will find a way to totally block off backing up dvds? i have heard some stuff about the simpsons season 3 and how people were having trouble backing it up... what else can they come up with?

I own about 220 dvds and i am in the process of backing them up and storing them away. I would hate to come across some protecting system that won't let me back a dvd up..

any thoughts?

I did the simpsons disc without a problem. people will always develop new ways to encode stuff, and people will always find new ways to decode it. I woldnt worry, as long as it is still legal to do so, there wont be a problem

It is very possible to make DVD's uncopyable right now. Companies can put something on the disc, that normal DVD-R discs don't have, just like the PS2. This would eventually lead to modchips for your DVD player, like the PS2.

wouldn't that mean that the older dvd players wouldnt be able to read it either?

It means that you'd have to install a modchip in your DVD Player in order to play your backup DVD Movies.

That doesnt make much sense to me. The ps2 is only able to use this copy protection because the ps2 is able to read the information that normal dvd-roms cant. The ps2 disks contain the information that normal dvd-roms cant read.

standalone dvd players.. i dont think were designed like that. They will only be able to decode what the normal ccs or whatever the copy protecting for dvds is called. If they were to release a new brand of dvd players then i guess it would be possible..

this is just my assumption correct me if i'm wrong.

Im not sure where you have gotten that info from, but i do not that mod chips are and will not be needed for copying DVD's.
