I have been using Sony DVD+R solely for several HUNDRED backups.
I do not usually watch the disk afterward.
When I do I have sometimes notice a glitch.
Now the problem seems VERY bad -
I would say every disk or every other disk completely freezes about 10 minutes toward the end of the movie.
I don't know if it's a bad spool of DVD's or what!
I use Any DVD and Shrink and have turned my burn speed as far down as possible in the Any DVD menu.
I don't have a clue what the problem IS.
I tried another type of blank last night and it didn't reproduce the glitch.
But I don't know if this means anything as the problem is inconsistent...
Could it just be my burner - or what??
I still have a lot of these Sony DVD+R blanks unopened and I had planned on keeping the media all the same so it would be uniform. :)
I buy my stuff at Wal Mart.
Any idea what is the best quality brand I can get there???
Help! :)
Thanks!

Looking at your track record of several hundred burns, I agree that it may be that you simply have a bad batch(pressing).

What brand did you choose for that burn? Taiyo yudens and Verbatims have a considerable following here. Although TDK may not be near the top of the tree so to speak, I've rarely had cause that warrants me changing.

Have you cleaned the lens on the burner? This just may be what it needs after all that hard work. Hope this helps out some.

Cheers.

I don't know what the other blank was... Sorry.

I've also taken to reading from one drive and recording to the other thinking that might help keep the drive from getting hot or over-worked.

I'm really freaking agitiated as I'm thinking my backups are garbage and don't know how many really ARE. Argh - help! :)

If I knew what to do - I'd do it. Confused!

What speed Sony discs are you using? Have you changed from using
8X to using 16X. When I bought a spindle of 100 Sony DVD+R 16X. I
was having a terrible problem. Never had any problems with the 8X.
I tried and was able to burn 16X of several other brands. So I took
the Sony's back to the store-even though I had used about a dozen and
they were all bad burns. The store gave me my money back. They had
gotten a bunch of the Sony DVD+R 16X back. A lot of people were
having trouble with them. So I would say return those and get
something else.
Good luck!
Lately I've been buying Taiyo Yudens from Meritline on their sales.
I've usually gotten them with free shipping. They are working really
well, and ended up costing me less than I usually spend in a store
locally. Shipping was outstanding-got them in 3 days.
Also if you watch Techbargains.com you will usually find the best
sales around. They update their site twice a day.

Thanks for the reply.

These say "1X-16X" on the label.
Have the AccuCORE marking - whatever that is...
And were made in Taiwan.
It's all I've ever used.
