Help Please. Divx to DVD ripping

I have a movie that I could only find from downloading off an internet site. I know want to rip this to a dvd. I was able to rip the movie to a dvd but the quality stinks. I use the program DivXtoDVD to convert the movie to an .iso file and ripped it using DVD Decrypter. the movie on my laptop works perfect, no flaws at all, but after rippin to a dvd and playing in a new dvd player the movie is distorted at different areas of the movie.

What could have caused this and is there a fix to this problem?

The movie downloads as an AVI file.
I'm using windows Vista also.
I have also used 2 different brands of dvd's to burn the movie onto and the flaw still happens.


And not to be a knucklehead but I do know it's not the proper thing to do to download movies. Not something I do on a regular.

Is the original format .avi or what?
Convert it to dvd-files using ConvertXtoDVD (and not image format)

Then just burn it using Nero. (use slow write speed)
