Can anyone tell me why I can't use any mp3 files as ring tunes and how to make mp3 files work as ring tunes. I have a sony ericsson z710i. Thanks in advance for the help.

Is your phone Vodafone branded? Vodafone branded handsets will only play audio files that are DRM protected. You can either download the utility that will apply DRM to your MP3's and allow them to be used as ringtones from Sony Ericsson's Devloper website (membership required)
or you can debrand your phone with Wotan.
