i'm having problems ripping with eac

for whatever reason i cannot seem to product mp3 or flac files in eac. i have followed guide settings for both but when ever i try to produce a flac file it produces a wave file. is a wave file the same as flac. also when i try to convert into mp3 using lame it again products a wave file. what am i doing wrong. i have profile settings for both flac and lame producing 320k files. any help would be great.
