I still get such a kick out of all the rumors that were circulating so heavily around Goldeneye being released... Everyone got all excited, but it was entirely obvious that it was never happening; because Nintendo would need to go in it with Rare who designed the game, but is now owned by M$. This isn't entirely unlikely, because Nintendo and M$ are actually fairly friendly; and tend to look at eachother as complimentary rather than competitive. Then, they would also need to re-purchase permission from MGM for the Goldeneye License, this is a two pronged problem...
-MGM already wants ridiculous amounts of money for that license... I believe it's a large part of the reason so many bond games do poorly. The game company spends so much on the license, that they can't afford much for the actual development of the game. Goldeneye was already a HUGELY successful game in it's first go on the 64; MGM knows this, and as such would want MORE money from Nintendo or M$ in order to allow them to use it; because it is obvious how much they stand to profit
-By the time MGM was done scrpaing every greedy penny from the intellectual property rights, Nintendo and M$ would have almost no money left from profits to call their own; it would be nothing more than an exercise in teamwork for the two companies; which seems highly unlikely, as they would be depending on an online-download only title to be hugely successful as a re-release, and as popular as the original game was; that makes for some pretty bad odds...
Anywho, I'm hoping to see some more N64 titles come down the pike soon...
