I bought a lot of DVD-R some time ago and I just heard that DVD+R is better because you can turn it to DVDROM with booktype thing so it can be more compatible or something. I just noticed on my legit ps2 copies and my ps2 that there is "DVDROM" on them. Now I know you can't booktype DVD-R to DVDROM so I was wondering, since I am still a newbie, if I made a mistake of buying those instead of DVD+R? Since I did 25 backups with DVD-R with no coasters (and they weren't TY!) I just want to be sure that I did the right purchase. Thank you.

I wouldn't sweat it. The reason people booktype the +Rs to DVD-ROM is to increase the compatiblilty of the +Rs to the level of the -Rs (that's a personal perference thing tho and not totally required). As far as quality of the media in terms of -Rs vs. +Rs that is dependant primarily on the brand.

Playr is correct. DVD-ROM is the specification from the DVD Forum for molded DVDs. DVD-R is the DVD Forum specification for recordable, write-once DVD discs. The DVD+R was developed by HP, Sony, and Philips, who broke from the DVD Forum to produce a simpler disc. Since some players refused to play any "non-DVD Forum" approved disc, hackers developed a now accepted way to alter the ID settings of DVD+R discs from non-DVD Forum-approved recordable discs to a "DVD-ROM" setting that appears to be the DVD Forum spec. If your DVD-R discs work, there is no reason to change.
