I've got my wiikey installed, but when I'm trying test it, inserting a disc (only tried fullsize wii discs so far) the disc starts being pulled in, and about 2/3 of the way in it sticks. The drive is still trying to pull it in. I can pull/eject the disc ok, and the system seems to be running fine.

I initially thought my wire bundle might be too thick and applying pressure to the drive, but this is not the case. I have the drive resting on top of the open wii, and I get the same thing.

With the drive still attempting to pull the disc in, I don't think this is a wiikey electronics problem, I think I have a mechanical misalignment issue. I didn't not take the drive apart or fiddle with any of its screws, so I'm not really sure how this would have happened.

Anyone had a similar issue? I'm hesitant to start pulling apart the disc drive, but I'm wondering what else my options might be at this point. Any tips would be most appreciated!

Hmmm, weird. It's all of a sudden started loading discs correctly. I played through some wiisports, then ejected and tried it again. Worked fine. Then I put in the wiikey setup disc, it pulled the disc in, and ejected it, re-pulled it in, and then ejected it again. The disc never spun up at all (I still have it open so I can see). Now it does this with valid discs too. Power cycling doesn't fix it either. Think I might be pulling this sucker completely apart again...

Anyone seen similar symptoms? Is this the kinda of symptoms you'd see from crappy soldering?

Sure enough, bad soldering. Found it handy to do continuity tests between the panasonic chipset itself on the drive and the terminals on the wiikey. Now, if I can just put it back together again without screwing it up...

I did find it strange that the version 1.0 setup disc didn't seem to work with my wavebird. Oh well, 1.1 downloading now.
